Scrap booking is preserving photos, memorabilia, and fun memories in a safe, acid free environment. It is not just a “Photo Album.” It is preserving more than just your photos. It is journaling and telling the story. It should include special memorabilia such as letters, tickets, awards, locks of hair. You can have many different scrapbooks. It's fun to keep a family book, as well as individual scrapbooks for each member of the family. There are also the theme books as in vacations, weddings, school days, and college “daze,” to name a few.

Something we stress here is a SAFE way to store your memories long term. Do you have any of the old “magnetic albums” around? Do you have yellowed photo's that are under plastic in acid pages? We suggest you take the photos out of those and remount them on acid free paper with acid free adhesives. There are a couple of ways to do that. You can take a WARM (please not hot) iron to the back of your page. There is also a product called Un-Du from Doumar, which also loosens the old glue so you can remove the photos. If you can't get the photos safely off the pages, there are other options. One is to simply make color copies of the photos, and just use the copies in your scrapbook. It's a good idea to copy the black and white photos with color copies as well, because you can capture a truer copy of the photo as you will be able to see the shadows more clearly. Remember to use ACID FREE PAPER to copy your old photos on. Another suggestion is to copy the photo by scanning it on a home computer and printing the photos onto quality photo paper.
