Book Review: My Creative Companion

Title: MY CREATIVE COMPANION - The ultimate scrapbooking resource

Author: Becky Higgins

You've just tucked your kids into bed. The time is yours- - a few precious hours to catch up on some scrapbooking. You sit down to start a new layout, spread out your photos and ... nothing. You've got scrapper's block.

This is the beginning of the preface to what I believe is my favorite scrapbooking guide book ever. If you have ever heard of Becky Higgins, you will know that her name is synonymous to incredible, clean layouts, with fresh and fun ideas. This book is a MUST HAVE to add you your book shelf.

This book is easy to use, has tabs that make turning to your favorite pages a snap, and all of the ideas Becky has are easy to understand, and really not hard to create.

Here are the different sections to this book: Accents, Borders, Journaling and Titles, Layout Design, Photo Mats, and Odds and Ends.

A couple of things that I use and use and use are the accents. She shows pictures of many small accents that add a special touch to your pages or cards, from hand torn double layered hearts, to vellum and grommet flowers. From cute and funky Christmas trees, to fun tag ideas. I love how her illustrations spark my imagination.

Another great section is the journaling and title section. Becky has some fun and very different title ideas that are very different, and really make pages stand out. She has some mix and match title letters with ripped, matted, crooked and straight. She has vellum letters that overlap, and hanging letter boxes that are dangling from the top of the page. She has journaling in some fun shapes, on fabric, in two part card stock and vellum squares and many other crazy and ingenious ideas.

Don't forget to check out the layout design section. She has illustrations and drawings of many many different lay out designs for your pages. I know many a seasoned scrapbooker who uses Becky's lay out designs.

Odds and ends are pages I turn through when I need a little something different. Becky suggests using a photo that is matted as a pocket on a page. Another fun thing is two layers of pockets, and ideas for journaling tabs that pull out from behind photos ... fun.

You will not be disappointed with this invaluable tool. If I had to choose one book as a resource this would be the one.
