Book Review: Designing Handcrafted Cards

Title: Designing Handcrafted Cards - Step-by-Step Techniques for Crafting 60 Beautiful Cards

Author: Claire Sun-ok Choi

This is one of my favorite books with card making ideas. There are 60 different ideas in this book for fresh, original ideas for beautiful and contemporary hand made cards.

The book is laid out well, starting with tools and supplies, outlining the ones you will need for the cards in the book, as well as instructions on how to use the specific tools and also a bit about the supplies.

The author then goes into easy to understand directions on the techniques you will use. I really like the techniques she chooses to emphasize, such as cutting and measuring your basic cards (she has a basic one and a basic two design). Another technique I really like that she highlights, is the Paper-quilling, which is coiling paper ribbon to make unique designs that really add a classy touch to cards. Other great techniques are the paper piercing, embossing, layering and weaving.

The cards featured are divided into the headings of Birthday, Wedding, Christmas, Love, Friendship, Thank-you (Spring) and Thank you (Autumn, Summer and Winter). There is also a section with templates.

The author is from South Korea. She worked as a quilling paper craft instructor in th Hyundai Culture Center for five years in Korea. She currently lives in Vancouver, Canada, and devotes most of her time now to the creation of quilling paper and Card designing.

I would highly recommend this book to add to your bookshelf for the simple to follow fresh designs and instructions displayed with beautiful illustration.
